By default, cellular SIMs are assigned a dynamic IP from a shared pool — the address changes every session, and you can't predict it. A Fixed IP gives your SIM a dedicated, permanent IPv4 address. It doesn't change when the device reconnects, when it roams to a different network, or when it reboots.

Why not just use a VPN?
VPN clients require software on the device, ongoing maintenance, and a reliable public internet connection. A private APN removes all of that — no software required, no public exposure at any point in the chain.
Why not dynamic IPs?
Dynamic IPs change every session. You can't whitelist them reliably, can't predict them in advance, and can't make inbound connections to your device without a dynamic DNS service that introduces its own failure mode.
What about shared APNs?
Standard SIMs share an APN with thousands of other devices. Traffic is separated at the IP layer, but it's still routing through the same public infrastructure. A private APN gives you total isolation and lets you apply your own firewall policy.
